Background

Christine trained as an existential counselling psychologist at Regent’s College London under the training of Ernesto Spinelli, and qualified in 2006. Since then, she has worked clinically in the NHS in a variety of different settings. She is also an experienced teacher, trainer and supervisor, and works part-time as a Senior Lecturer at the University of the West of England in Bristol, where she is a part of the programme team delivering the Professional Doctorate in Counselling Psychology.

Christine is an active researcher too, seeking to develop the evidence base for mindfulness, acceptance and arts-based therapies for clients recovering from an eating disorder. She has published several peer-reviewed papers and presented at conferences internationally. She has completed her training as a mindfulness teacher with Bangor University as well, and is a registered mindfulness teacher. She currently teaches Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction courses at UWE Bristol for staff, students and the wider community.

Christine is a Chartered Counselling Psychologist and Associate Fellow with the British Psychological Society, and a Registered Practitioner Psychologist with the Health and Care Professions Council.She is registered as an approved provider with BUPA, AXA/PPP, Aviva and Allianz.

Areas of Specialist Experience

Christine works with adults experiencing a range of emotional difficulties such as depression, a broad spectrum of anxiety difficulties (including OCD), and work-related stress. Christine also works with people struggling to adjust to life events or physical illness and those who have experienced abuse. She has a special interest in supporting clients to recover from eating disorders such as anorexia and bulimia.

Therapeutic Approach

Initially, Christine seeks to understand her clients’ experiences and build a sense of trust and rapport.Then, depending on clients’ goals, she can offer Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Mindfulness training and/ or Existential Therapy, working flexibly to support clients to explore and better understand their experience or to learn new skills and change their behaviour.
