Background

Miltos is a Counselling Psychologist and is registered with the Health and Care Professionals Council (HCPC). He holds Master’s degrees in Psychology and Social Anthropology from the University of Edinburgh and has completed a Doctorate in Counselling Psychology with funding from the A.S. Onassis Foundation.   Miltos is bilingual and can offer therapy in Greek. His practice is queer affirmative and culture-sensitive and includes the exploration of how mental health intersects with racial, sexual, religious, and other identities. Miltos’ therapy is evidence based and informed by a decade of teaching at a university.

Areas of Specialist Experience

Miltos is informed by his personal experiences as well as his training and has developed specialist interests in working with anxiety and low mood, sexuality, embodied trauma, dreams, cross-cultural and decolonial perspectives, eco-psychotherapy, and narratives. He is sensitive to environmental, socio-political challenges and digital fatigue; factors that seem to make life more difficult for many of us. As a critical psychologist, Miltos adopts a cautious approach towards medicalised language and diagnostic labels, while appreciating that having a name for what troubles us can be useful in making sense and accessing the right support.

Therapeutic Approach

Miltos’ therapeutic approach is not fixed, as it is tailored to the particular difficulties his clients present with, and develops in the context of the therapeutic relationship. Miltos is trained in humanistic therapy, psychodynamic therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), somatic (body) psychotherapy, and family/systemic work. Miltos has also completed further training in Eye-Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), narrative therapy, and systemic eco-psychotherapy. In addition to one-to-one therapy, Miltos facilitates a weekly therapeutic group. Miltos’ practice is located in central Bristol, near College Green.
