Background

Dr Ruxandra Vasile completed her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at the University of Oxford. She is registered with the Health and Care Professionals Council (HCPC) and British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP). She has experience working with children, adolescents and young adults across numerous settings, including primary care, community, hospital, residential, and secure. She also has experience working with individuals with learning difficulties and neurodevelopmental conditions such as autism and ADHD.

Alongside working with Bristol Psychology Services, Ruxandra works in the NHS with young people with challenging behaviours and complex developmental trauma. She also supports carers to look after young people and manage their own emotional difficulties linked to these challenging behaviours.

Areas of Specialist Experience

Ruxandra provides therapeutic work for children, young people and their parents and families. She specialises in working with young people with emotional and behavioural difficulties, including low mood, anxiety, low self-esteem, challenging behavioural, and school absenteeism. She also works with young people with long-term physical health conditions. Furthermore, Ruxandra works with young people who have additional neurodevelopmental or learning needs and is able to consider how these needs may interact with emotional or behavioural challenges. Ruxandra focuses on how the whole system around a youngperson can support them to manage difficulties, so encourages collaborative work between young people, families and schools.

Therapeutic Approach

Ruxandra is trained in using a range of evidence-based therapeutic approaches, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), and Systemic Family Therapy.Furthermore, she draws on approaches such as Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP) and Positive Behavioural Support (PBS) to empower and support families who may struggle with their child’s challenging behaviour or attachment difficulties.

Above all else, Ruxandra recognises the importance of a strong therapeutic relationship and a
compassionate approach. She understands that coming to therapy can be a daunting process, especially for young people, so focuses on making the therapeutic environment feel comfortable and safe. She will work with her clients and their families to develop a shared understanding of their difficulties and a plan for tackling these. She will always work at a pace that feels right for her clients.
